This post will be a little different from the last few Feather’s Crafts posts. I’m not baking or cooking or blending anything this time. In fact, I’m not in the kitchen. Today I’ll be in my bedroom, just like every time I write a new post (because I don’t have an office of my own, and to be honest, my bedroom is my office.
New Old Hobbies
So what have I made this time? Well, since I’m keeping the spirit of Christmas this time round, I have decided to take up my old hobby of crocheting. It has been too long since the last time I made something from this very therapeutic hobby. Now I’m wandering off on a tangent, so to be blunt, I made Christmas stockings for my family.
Impressive? Yeah they are, even I was amazed by what I’d made, but I didn’t make the pattern, I’d found it on the Internet. There are so many on there that I had a hard time choosing which one I wanted to try. Eventually I found this one and fell in love with it. It almost looks knitted (well it is, but not in the conventional sense), and it is only done with one hook and yarn!
What’s the Difference?
The difference is mainly the colour and the type of thread I used. You see, the original pattern requires a specific type of yarn, but being in different parts of the world and with different resources, I had to make it up as I went. The hook size is roughly the same, it requires a hook of 4.5mm and most of the time the hook takes any type of regular wool yarns, so it wasn’t too hard to find something to fit the description.
How Long Did It Take?
Now, because of the many different events that took place in the last month or so, I couldn’t exactly sit down and dedicate my time to these stockings, so naturally it took almost a week to create them. Usually projects like this would probably take me about half a day to a day. Of course I learned how to crochet when I was quite young so I grew up knowing how to sew and crochet that the motions are like second nature to me.
For those who have been keeping up with the social media side of this blog, you’ll probably know that next year Feather’s Charm is going to have a massive upgrade, and one of them is the potential opening of the Feather’s Craft Shop in about a year or two. That’s right, all the products I’ll be making for this blog will be up for sale in about a year or two! So keep your eyes and ears peeled for their arrival!
If you are an avid crocheter or knitter, you’ll probably want to make these products yourselves, don’t worry, the link below will take you to the website(s) I found these patterns on (if they’re not my own). So here you go! Take a look and maybe you’ll be inspired to use some of the other patterns that you find.
Well, that’s it from me, it’s your turn. Do you know how to crochet or knit? Do you have a favourite pattern for yourself? What is your favourite product to make? Do you have patterns others would like to try? Let us know in the comments below and I’ll see you next year!
